Questions
Questions we hear most
Do you take my insurance?
We are in network with some PPO plans and out of network with others. The fees page lists the plan types and how we handle the rest. We check your dental benefits before your first visit and tell you what we find.
What if I don't have insurance?
You get a written estimate before treatment, and you can ask for one when you schedule. The fees page explains self-pay.
Do you accept Medicaid or CHIP?
Yes. We see patients with Medicaid or CHIP dental coverage. Call and we'll check your plan before the first visit.
Will it hurt?
Most people feel pressure and some tenderness. We numb the area when it's needed, you can ask for a break at any time, and we stop when you ask.
How often do I need X-rays and a cleaning?
The dentist decides from your exam. Some people come twice a year, some more often, some less. X-rays are taken only when the dentist needs them.
What is a deep cleaning?
A longer cleaning of the roots of the teeth under the gums, usually over two visits, for gums that have pulled away. The dentist will show you why they suggest it.
Do you see children, and from what age?
Yes, from about age two. Care for children here is provided by general dentists, and a caregiver can stay for the whole visit.
What counts as a dental emergency, and what should I do first?
Swelling that spreads to the face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now: go to an emergency room or call 911. For a broken or knocked-out tooth, or a toothache, call us.
Do you offer sedation, and who gives it?
We offer nitrous oxide for some visits. The dentist gives it and stays in the room. We don't offer IV sedation, oral sedation or general anesthesia, and we'll tell you early if a patient needs it.
Can I get a written estimate before treatment?
Yes. You can ask for one at any time, and we give one in advance to anyone paying without insurance.
Can I use my own communication device or picture cards?
Yes. Bring them, and tell us what words, signs or pictures the patient uses. We'll use them.
What if the patient needs more support than you offer?
We say so early. We can help you find a dentist who offers general anesthesia, and we'll send records you ask us to send.
How do I cancel or change a visit?
Call or text us as early as you can. Changing a visit is fine, and so is rescheduling after a hard day.
Something we didn't answer?
Call or send a message, and leave out health details.
