Dental visits that go at your pace

Hawley Street Dental is a two-dentist general practice. We plan each visit with autistic patients, patients with disabilities and the people who care for them: low light, no surprises and a say in every step.

  • Quiet hours twice a week
  • A caregiver beside you
  • Each step told before it happens

Visit preview

Your visit, one step at a time

Read it ahead, or go through it with the person who is coming with you.

  • Before you come

Call or send a request and tell us what makes a visit hard and what helps. We write it down so nobody asks twice.

  • Walking in

We check you in at the desk. A quiet corner is there if you'd rather wait out of the main room.

  • The room

You see the chair, the light and the tray before you sit. Nothing is switched on.

  • The visit

We say what we will do, show the tool, then begin. A raised hand means stop.

  • Leaving

We tell you what we did and what comes next. The next visit can be longer, shorter or just a practice.

How we work

You tell us what helps, and we change the visit

Every person takes in a dental office differently. A bright lamp, a whining handpiece, a hand near the face: for some patients any one of them is the hardest part. We ask what helps before you arrive, use it, and keep adjusting until the visit is workable.

  • Low light, and sunglasses if you want them

  • Headphones and a blanket from our shelf, or bring your own

  • Every tool shown and named before it is used

  • Longer slots, or a visit split in two

General dentistry, done without hurry

Two general dentists

Both see adults and children. You can ask for either one, and we aim to put you with the same dentist each time.

    Dr. Dominique Hubbard

    General dentist, DMD

For caregivers

For parents, caregivers and support staff

You know the patient well. We ask, and we plan around what you tell us.

  • Come into the room

A caregiver can stay for the whole visit, in the patient's line of sight. For X-rays we give you a lead apron.

  • Tell us what works

Share the words, signs or picture cards the patient uses, and what makes a visit harder. We write it down so you don't repeat it.

  • The right person decides

We talk with the patient first, and with a parent, guardian or other legal decision-maker where one is needed for consent.

  • Bring what helps

A tablet, a toy, a weighted blanket, headphones. Use ours or yours.

Questions

Before you call

Can a caregiver stay with the patient?

Yes, for the whole visit. We'll ask where you'd like to sit so the patient can see you.

What if the visit isn't working?

We stop. We can finish another day, split the work into shorter visits, or use the time to practice. Nothing is done against a raised hand.

Do you offer sedation?

We offer nitrous oxide for some visits. We don't offer IV sedation or general anesthesia, and we'll say so early if a patient needs it.

Do you take my insurance?

The fees page lists the plan types we work with and how we handle the rest. You'll know what your plan covers before the first visit.
